So while I finish off my basement bathroom I have decided to start on my finished basement project. I really didn’t want to touch the basement other than the bathroom but the wood paneling, custom drop ceiling made from 2×4’s and the fact they smoked for years down there changed my mind. Its time to change the configuration of the basement and bring it up to date.
I started the work in the hallway where the entrance to my basement bathroom is located. This hallway had three entrances, one for my laundry room, storage room and bathroom.
Between my storage room and laundry room they had a clear area they used for the central vacuum and to store all their hockey equipment. For me this was extremely wasted space but I was puzzled on what to do with it, After much thought I came up with a plan, Demo both the laundry and storage wall and make a common wall in between making a larger laundry room and extra bedroom.
I started by removing the drop ceiling, this was made up of 2×4’s spanning the ceiling than 2×4’s secured to them to make a suspended ceiling to support the 2ft by 4 ft ceiling tiles.
Removed the drywall from the storage room than I removed all the 2×4 framing. I could smell the smoke when tearing this wood apart so it’ll go straight for firewood instead of being used. Once the wall is removed I can lay our the new configuration for the new wall and the door placement for the laundry room and new bedroom.
